What are Clik Domes?

If you’ve ever used a keyboard, remote control, or any other device with buttons, you’ve likely encountered tactile dome switches. These small switches are commonly used in electronics to provide a tactile response when pressed. They offer a variety of benefits, including durability, reliability, and ease of use. 

Tactile dome switches are also known as snap dome switches, because they use a small metal dome to make contact when pressed. This dome is typically made of stainless steel or other metals, and can be coated with a conductive material like Nickle, Gold or Silver. When the dome is pressed, it collapses and makes contact with a circuit board or other electrical component, completing the circuit and registering the button press.

Applications

Clik Domes are widely used in many industrial and commercial enviroments, they can be found in Membrane Switchs, Dome Arrays used in conjunction with different types of circuits, PET/FPC/PCB. They can also be found as stand alone switch contacts in various devices which have a mechnaical HMI, but providing the actual switch function and tactile feedback.

The Range of Clik Domes

S-Range

The S-Range is a 4 leg version and is probably by far the most commonly used. Extremely high durability available in various sizes and froce ranges. Its design makes it an ideal choice on single layer or double sided circuits.

S-Range come in the option of Non Dimple and Dimple types, this dimple plays apart dependant on the type of responding circuit foot print being used.

The center hole option alllows for backlighting with an LED placed on the circuit.

R-Range are low profile, and are available with a feet option to increase travel and hence tactile responsitivity.

OL-Range offer a space bar approach for larger area keys, and likewise a hole option for LEDs.

Packing Options

Domes can be supplied loose in bags or on T&R for SMD placement. 

Most dome sizes can be loaded onto a Tape and Reel for automated or other placement options.

Tape & Reel Package has each snap dome sealed in a socket on a continued tape and packed on a reel, so it can be used with traditional automated placement equipment.

Now we can make four-leg snap dometriangle snap dome, and circle snap domes in the Tape & Reel package, because this shape enables the correct dome orientation to match the target footprint on the circuits.
